Push Horizons!

The Riding

Eremua is the Forest Spirit: a community-built trail network hidden in the forests of Navarra's Esteribar Valley, just north of Pamplona, where natural singletrack flows beneath dense beech and oak canopies and historic paths become proper mountain-bike trails.

Full decision logic

Expand this when season, terrain, bike setup or support choices need a deeper check before choosing the basecamp.

Eremua is a technical forest basecamp shaped by Basque/Navarre terrain: green, physical, rooty and full of local-trail character. It suits riders who enjoy natural enduro, repeated forest loops and riding that changes with the weather.

Best season

April-June / September-November

Caution season

Wet Atlantic periods can make roots, clay and forest surfaces slippery. Winter can be muddy and physically demanding.

Ride character

Basque/Navarre forest riding, technical natural trails, roots, loam, old paths, short punchy climbs, dense trail networks and green enduro terrain.

Typical ride day

20-40 km / 700-1,400 m+ / 3-6 hours

Technical level

Intermediate+ to advanced / approx. S2-S4+

Fitness demand

Medium-high. Shorter distances can still feel physical because of repeated climbs, technical descents and wet-surface effort.

Best bike

Trail or enduro MTB. eMTB suitable with good tyres and wet-weather setup.

eMTB suitability

Good - especially for repeated forest climbs and technical trail linking.

Guide logic

Recommended for first visit, wet conditions, hidden trails, best line choice and mixed-level groups.

Shuttle usefulness

Useful for selected enduro days, but many rides are built around repeatable forest loops and local trail knowledge.

Weather logic

Atlantic weather is part of the experience. Route choice should adapt to rain, mud, roots and seasonal trail conditions.

Best for

  • Technical forest riders
  • Basque enduro riders
  • eMTB groups who like repeated climbs
  • Riders who enjoy roots, loam and natural trails
  • Guided or locally supported groups

Not ideal for

  • Beginners
  • Riders who dislike mud or wet roots
  • Groups wanting dry Mediterranean terrain
  • Riders looking for wide easy trails

Why Ride Eremua?

Deep Forests, Natural Flow, Living History

Eremua is not a bike park, not a gravity resort and not a commercial trail centre. It is a rider-built forest network shaped by local community, old pathways and the landscape itself. Trails pass beneath dense beech and oak forest, following routes once used by shepherds, charcoal burners, smugglers and local communities.

  • 21 official routes in the Eremua trail network
  • Around 300 km of riding possibilities
  • 125+ Trailforks segments across the area
  • Esteribar Valley base north of Pamplona
  • Historic GR-225 corridors and forest pathways

Flagship Identity

The Forest Spirit

Most Spanish MTB destinations sell open mountains, dry rock or bike-park vertical. Eremua sells atmosphere: green light through the trees, damp dirt, natural flow, roots, loam, history and community-built trail craft. It is one of the few places in Spain where riders can spend an entire day almost completely on natural singletrack.

  • Forest, flow and trail quality as the core identity
  • Built by riders and maintained by riders
  • Organic trail feel rather than resort infrastructure
  • More Atlantic forest than Mediterranean mountain
  • A distinctive counterpoint to Ainsa and Costa Blanca

Hero Ride

Burdindogi Bidaia

Burdindogi Bidaia is the signature Eremua experience: 28 km, around 1,150 m of climbing and a 3-4 hour advanced loop that captures the destination in one ride. It begins with the famous Sugea climb, opens toward views over the Eugi Reservoir near Leateko Gaina, drops into the technical flow of King Cobra, then returns toward Zubiri along historic paths.

  • 28 km distance
  • 1,150 m climbing
  • 3-4 hour ride time
  • Advanced difficulty
  • Sugea climb, Leateko Gaina views, King Cobra descent and Zubiri return

Ride Character

Forest, Flow And Natural Singletrack

Eremua rewards rhythm, momentum and line choice rather than outright speed. The riding is very different from exposed Pyrenean ridges or Costa Blanca limestone. Expect forest singletrack, root sections, natural flow, rolling terrain, long climbing trails, technical descents and excellent e-MTB loops.

  • Forest singletrack and natural surfaces
  • Roots, loam, rock and changing grip
  • Rolling terrain with continuous trail rhythm
  • Long climbing trails that feel like proper riding
  • Strong e-MTB potential without losing the natural character

Four Faces

Burdindogi, Sugea, GR-225 And Esteribar

Eremua has several clear riding personalities. Burdindogi is the forest spirit: dense canopy, natural singletrack and the atmosphere that defines the destination. Sugea is the climber, gaining roughly 588 vertical metres over about 6.5 km of singletrack. The GR-225 brings history, while the Esteribar Valley adds villages, rivers, forests and local culture.

  • Burdindogi: the signature forest riding zone
  • Sugea: one of the network's defining singletrack climbs
  • GR-225: historic pathways and cultural depth
  • Esteribar Valley: the wider sanctuary and basecamp landscape

Scenery

The Hidden Forest

Eremua offers a version of Spain many riders do not expect. Instead of dry mountains and open rock, the trails move through dense beech and oak canopy, with changing light, damp earth, seasonal colour and quiet forest atmosphere. In spring the valley turns bright green. In autumn the trails disappear beneath gold and copper leaves.

  • Dense beech and oak forests
  • Eugi Reservoir viewpoints
  • Cooler Atlantic-Pyrenean microclimate
  • Spring greens and autumn forest colour
  • A feel closer to the Atlantic Pyrenees or Black Forest than dry Spain

Best Season

April To November

Eremua excels through the warmer months. Spring brings fresh forest colour and ideal temperatures. Summer works surprisingly well because of the shade and cooler forest climate. Autumn may be the most beautiful season, with spectacular colours through the beech forest. Winter can be wet and muddy, so route choice matters.

  • April to June: green, fresh and flowing
  • July and August: cooler than southern Spain thanks to forest cover
  • September to November: autumn colour and strong trail conditions
  • Winter: possible, but weather and mud need respect

How We Build It

Trail Quality Over Hype

Eremua works best as a trail-riding and exploration basecamp. We build trips around signature singletrack loops, e-MTB range, historic paths, forest riding, local villages, Basque-Navarra gastronomy and multi-day riding rhythm. The objective is not to collect vertical metres. It is to discover exceptional trails and understand the landscape they pass through.

  • Use Burdindogi Bidaia as the flagship loop
  • Layer in Sugea, King Cobra and forest trail combinations
  • Add GR-225 history and village connections
  • Adapt around weather, grip, group fitness and e-MTB range

Who It Is For

Trail Riders Who Want Something Different

Eremua is ideal for trail riders, e-MTB riders, forest lovers, flow seekers, adventure riders, summer escape groups and riders who want a different Spanish MTB story. It is less suitable for bike-park riders, gravity-focused downhill groups, freeriders or anyone looking for lift access.

  • Trail riders and natural singletrack lovers
  • E-MTB riders who want range without resort riding
  • Forest lovers and flow seekers
  • Adventure riders and multi-day explorers
  • Riders looking for a cooler summer option

Why We Selected It

Because No Other Spanish Basecamp Feels Quite Like This

Nowhere else in the Epic Bike Trails collection combines community-built trails, deep forest riding, local history and natural flow quite like Eremua. It feels authentic, sustainable and entirely different from the better-known Spanish MTB landscapes.

  • Community-built identity
  • Distinctive forest riding proposition
  • Strong story around history and local trail culture
  • A northern Spain basecamp with real personality

Epic Takeaway

Built By Riders. Shaped By Forest.

If Ainsa is the Enduro Purist and Costa Blanca the Winter Escape, then Eremua is the Forest Spirit: hidden beneath Navarra's canopy, built by community and defined by the feeling of natural singletrack.
